Friends Illuminated (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website friendsilluminated.com and sells modernized editions of Quaker classics as digital EPUB books. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Please read it alongside our Terms of Service and Refund Policy.
Information We Collect
Purchase information. When you buy a book, checkout and payment are handled by our payment processor, Stripe. You enter your card details and billing information directly with Stripe; we never see or store your full card number. Stripe shares limited transaction data with us — such as your email address, the title purchased, the amount, and whether payment succeeded — so we can deliver your book and provide support.
Newsletter email. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect the email address you provide so we can send occasional updates about new editions. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site. GA4 collects standard usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location (derived from IP address), device and browser type, and interactions like starting checkout or completing a purchase. This data is used in aggregate and is not used to identify you personally.
Support correspondence. If you email us, we retain your message and contact details to respond and keep a record of the request.
How We Use Your Information
- To process your purchase and deliver your EPUB download.
- To send transactional messages (receipts and download links) via Stripe.
- To send newsletter updates if you have subscribed.
- To provide customer support and handle refund requests.
- To measure and improve site performance and the shopping experience.
- To comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
Payment Processing (Stripe)
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. Your card data is transmitted directly to Stripe over an encrypted connection and is subject to Stripe’s Privacy Policy. We rely on Stripe’s PCI-DSS-compliant infrastructure and do not store card numbers on our servers.
Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for essential site functionality (such as remembering your theme preference and dismissed banners) and for Google Analytics. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect some site features. For more information about Google’s practices, see Google’s Privacy Policy.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers that make the site work — principally Stripe (payments) and Google (analytics) — and only as needed to provide the service, or where required by law.
Data Retention
We keep purchase and transaction records for as long as needed to provide support, process refunds, and meet legal and tax requirements. Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or the California CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to opt out of certain processing. To make a request, contact us using the details below and we will respond as required by applicable law.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
