Born into a Bristol family. Trained as a physician and apothecary.

1654

Heard John Audland and John Camm preaching in Bristol and was immediately convinced.

1670s

Combined a medical practice with traveling ministry across the west of England.

1680

Published his best-known devotional work, a guide for Friends struggling with spiritual darkness.

1698

Died in his native city. His collected works were published posthumously in 1704.

Marshall was part of the network of ministers that maintained Quaker unity across England.
